WIT to take part in Women’s History Month activities

The Women in Technology student organization will participate in two events during Women’s History Month in March.

As part of a campuswide celebration, WIT will take part in the University March in March, which will commemorate similar parades 100 years ago in support of women’s suffrage.

In addition, the women will take part in a nationwide effort to speak out and inspire more women to pursue careers in IT or other technology disciplines.

With the theme “Sometimes you have to sit to take a stand,” the Red Chair campaign encourages all people to engage in meaningful discussions about the roles women have in technology.

“We have this red chair, and we’ll put it out in the Knoy lobby,” said Kelli Tynan, WIT president. “We will invite people, women and men, to sit in the chair and share why it is important that women are in technology fields.”

The event will take place March 5 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The group is still finalizing details on how the stories will be shared. Read more about the campaign at sitwithme.org.

In February, WIT will partner with the Office of Diversity Programs to host the annual DOiT camp for high school women.
