Academic Brain Bowl attracts record number of participants

Purdue University’s College of Technology at Anderson will host the fourth annual Academic Brain Bowl on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at the Flagship Enterprise Center beginning at 8:30 a.m. Local high school teams compete in an academic competition in order to win prizes and experience a day in a college setting.

The 2013 competition is the largest yet with 18 teams and 103 students.

Participating teams are Frankton High School; Madison Grant High School; Anderson High School; Noblesville High School; Delta High School; Mississinewa High School; Harrison High School; and the Indiana Academy for Science, Mathematics and Humanities. The teams will compete for the top award of a traveling trophy for their school and a chance to win a Ricker’s gas card.

This event, developed and managed by College of Technology at Anderson students, is hosted by students in the Organizational Leadership and Supervision 46700 (Service Learning) class.

“The purpose of the Academic Brain Bowl is to bring awareness to the local Purdue location and to inform high school students about the various degree programs offered in Anderson,” said Corey Sharp, director of the location. “The event also allows local students to network with other area schools, and it provides an academic forum for challenging questions which cover a spectrum of subjects.”

The Purdue College of Technology at Anderson focuses on offering educational opportunities to both traditional college students and area businesses and their employees. It offers degrees in three Purdue programs:  engineering technology, industrial technology and organizational leadership and supervision.
