In the News: Darst named candidate for CLASS award

Purdue senior shortstop Molly Garst has been selected as one of 30 candidates nationally for the 2012 Lowe’s Senior CLASS Award for softball, the corporation announced on Wednesday. Garst is an organizational leadership and supervision major.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence: classroom, character, community and competition.

“This is a huge award; it is not just within the Big Ten but for the whole nation,” Garst said. “It is an amazing feeling to be chosen not only to represent Purdue softball but the whole university. It is humbling, but also eye opening because this award is not just for hard work on the field but also in the classroom.
