Purdue takes second place at Solar Decathlon

The final contest at the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 was announced today. After placing second in the Market Appeal contest, the University of Maryland was named the winner of this year’s competition. They placed second in 2007.

Purdue University, which placed 5th in the Market Appeal contest, placed second overall in the Solar Decathlon.

Team New Zealand, after placing 3rd in Market Appeal, moved to third in the overall standings as well.

Middebury College won the Market Appeal contest.

Friday night, seven Solar Decathlon teams, including Purdue, received 100 points in the Energy Balance contest in the Solar Decathlon in Washington, D.C. Full points were awarded to the teams that produced at least as much electricity as they used during the span of the competition. Purdue also moved into second place after the results of this contest were recorded.
